Experience the “Zen of motorcycling” on this tour into the Himalayan foothills (up to 2900m) combined with the cultural and historic highlights of India. We start in Delhi, where we visit the major ancient as well as modern monuments of this great culture. Peaceful gardens and temples contrast with the bustling colourful streets of the old quarter of Delhi. No visit to India would be complete without seeing the Taj Mahal, one of the seven world wonders. The last city in this golden triangle is the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur, the pink city. We take a guided tour of the ancient astrological observatory, and visit the massive Nahargarh Fort and Amber Fort, plus the city palace. We can get lost in the old bazaar which abounds in colour and humanity. This time of year the plains are getting hotter and we transfer north to Rishikesh, the starting point of our motorcycling adventure. The ride grade is “medium”, and it’s an easy start with mostly flat driving on the first day before heading up into the Uttarakhand mountains. Apart from the fun of motorcycling the windy roads of the Himalayas, we go on a jeep safari in Corbett National Park, soak in hot springs and have the option to climb to the highest Shiva shrine in India at Tungnath and beyond where views of the Himalayan snow peaks can be enjoyed, weather permitting. On the last day instead of riding back into Rishikesh we’ll be rafting the last 16 km on the Ganga river.
This tour is fully escorted and limited to 10 people max. We travel by a/c vehicle with our own driver for the first part of the tour, then by private transport to Rishikesh and back to the airport on departure day. For the motorcycle tour we use a local partner and we’ll be riding the legendary Enfield motorbikes. (for pillion riders there is a A$ 100 reduction in price)
